Requirements
The specification
Our client operates an industrial lubrication business. They required an ecommerce build with multiple category product listings, some of these include food safe products. Outside of this they had 3 main requests:
- They had to be able to upload safety sheets in a PDF format to every product on the site & have them available to download by logged in only customers
- There had to be a traffic light system to easily differentiate the 3 grades of product available. Direct (Green), Incidental (yellow) and NONE (red) food contact lubricants
- QR code system linked to each product, specified function to automatically lower to sheet download section.
We solve problems
Our Approach
- We modified the product post type to allow for enhanced functionality, enabling us to upload safety sheets, we then hooked through from the front end and attached each sheet to a styled list on the corresponding product page, before then adding a logged in/out condition to the styled list of PDFs, this is accompanied by a button that requests registration if logged out, or doesn’t display If logged in but is switched for the list if PDFs.
- The QR code system, the use case being the client prints off a QR code and places it on the product that when scanned by the customer, automatically brings them to the safety sheet section. After syncing the QR codes to the products, we modified the link URL to contain an anchor that then auto-scrolled visitors to the section containing safety sheets.
- With the traffic light system. These come in two variants, incidental and direct. We assigned a green and yellow to the relevant product category and we then dynamically pulled the colour to the relevant product template to easily allow buyers to know clearly which grade of lubricant they are buying. Non coloured coded, or red indicates a product unsuitable for food production use.
